The Central University of Punjab celebrated the 77th Republic Day of India with great enthusiasm on its campus. On the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Raghavendra P. Tiwari unfurled the National Flag and the University Flag, followed by a ceremonial inspection of the parade. He extended Republic Day greetings to all participants. The event was also graced by the First Lady of the University, Smt. Karuna Tiwari.
The celebrations, themed around the 150 years of “Vande Mataram”, reflected India’s journey from spiritual heritage to scientific progress. On the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor honoured the family of Shaheed Karam Singh of Naruana, paying tribute to the nation’s martyrs, and felicitated student-athlete Simranjeet Kaur for qualifying for the Khelo India Games.
In his address, Prof. Tiwari recalled the adoption of the Constitution of India in 1950 and the contributions of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and the Constituent Assembly. Emphasising the balance between rights and duties, he stated that true democracy flourishes when all stakeholders sincerely fulfil their responsibilities, guided by both rule-based governance and humane sensitivity.
Highlighting the University’s achievements, he stated that the dedicated efforts of its faculty members, scholars, and students yielded 835 research publications during the calendar year 2025, alongside notable accomplishments in academics, sports, and cultural activities. These included the University’s inclusion in the 251–300 global rank band in THE Medicine World University Rankings 2026, securing 4th position in the 39th AIU North Zone Youth Festival, and student representation in the Khelo India Games. He also underscored the importance of skill development, community outreach, and the adoption of sustainable lifestyles, while inspiring youth to actively contribute to nation-building.
Patriotic performances by students of the Department of Performing and Fine Arts added cultural vibrancy to the programme. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. R.K. Sharma, Finance Officer, and was moderated by Prof. Ramanpreet Kaur and Dr. Kulbhushan Sharma, with enthusiastic participation from faculty, students, and residents of Village Ghudda.
