‘Watching Her Journey Has Been Special’ — Sindhu Calls Super 300 Triumph a Result of Discipline and Hard Work
India’s two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu lavished praise on young shuttler Devika Sihag after she clinched her maiden BWF Super 300 women’s singles title at the Thailand Masters. Calling the victory a reflection of discipline, hard work and belief, Sindhu said watching Devika’s journey closely has been a special experience.
Devika Sihag, just 20 years old, etched her name in Indian badminton history by becoming only the third Indian woman after PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal to win a Super 300 women’s singles title. The young shuttler from Haryana achieved the feat at the Thailand Masters on Sunday, marking the biggest milestone of her career so far.
Sindhu, who trains alongside Devika at the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy in Bengaluru, shared her thoughts through a social media post. She highlighted Devika’s dedication and consistent effort, saying she feels especially happy when her training partners succeed.
“I always get super excited when my training partners do well. Devika trains with me and coach Irwansyah in Bangalore, and her dedication has been incredible to witness up close,” Sindhu wrote.
In the final of the Thailand Masters Super 300 tournament, Devika was declared the winner after her opponent, Malaysia’s Goh Jin Wei, was forced to retire due to a hamstring injury. However, Devika’s overall performance throughout the tournament was impressive, as she displayed confidence, composure and maturity beyond her age.
Sindhu also spoke about Devika’s work behind the scenes, especially her commitment to fitness and conditioning. She noted that the young shuttler has worked closely with her support team and has shown steady improvement in all aspects of her game.
“I’ve personally seen her game grow, mature and evolve step by step. This win is a reflection of the discipline, hard work and belief she has shown every single day. So proud of her,” Sindhu added.
Adding a light-hearted touch, Sindhu jokingly put pressure on her other training partner, Isharani, to follow Devika’s upward trajectory. She also expressed strong belief in young players like Ansh and Suryaksh, saying she enjoys tracking the journeys of upcoming shuttlers and watching them grow.
Devika Sihag’s historic triumph not only marks a breakthrough moment in her career but also highlights the bright future of Indian women’s badminton, with young talents steadily stepping up on the international stage.
