A gripping and high-voltage contest stole the spotlight at the grand ‘Mahadangal’ wrestling tournament held in Nadwa village under Barh, Bihar, on Friday. Hosted at the ancestral residence of Mokama MLA Anant Kumar Singh, the event transformed into a vibrant celebration of traditional Indian wrestling infused with an international flavor.

The tournament witnessed an overwhelming turnout, with spectators gathering in huge numbers to witness the electrifying bouts. However, the biggest highlight of the evening was the intense face-off between India and Iran, which kept the audience hooked till the very end.

Delhi-based wrestler Jonty Gurjar showcased exceptional skill and determination as he took on Iran’s seasoned wrestler Halal in a nail-biting contest. Right from the opening moments, both wrestlers displayed remarkable strength, agility, and technical prowess, engaging in a closely fought battle that kept spectators on the edge of their seats.

As the match progressed, Gurjar’s superior technique and quick reflexes began to dominate the bout. In a decisive moment, he overpowered his Iranian opponent and pinned him to the ground, sealing a memorable victory. The crowd erupted in loud cheers, celebrating the win as a proud moment for the nation and a triumph for the Tricolour.

Following the bout, Anant Kumar Singh and Karmveer Singh honoured the winner with the prestigious Winner’s Cup, acknowledging his outstanding performance. Addressing the gathering, Anant Singh highlighted the significance of promoting rural sports and nurturing grassroots talent.

The event also reflected true sportsmanship, as the Iranian wrestler was applauded for his spirited performance. Adding a cultural touch, Anant Singh entertained the crowd by waving his traditional gamcha to a popular Bhojpuri track by singer Gunjan Singh.

Overall, the Mahadangal stood as a powerful showcase of Bihar’s rich rural sporting culture, inspiring young athletes and reviving the essence of traditional games.
