Women’s Team Tops Medal Tally with Historic Performance

The Indian women’s team delivered a remarkable performance at the Asian Boxing Championships 2026 held in Mongolia, finishing at the top of the medal standings. The team secured a total of 10 medals, including 4 gold, 2 silver, and 4 bronze, in a truly dominant campaign. Notably, every Indian boxer returned with a medal, highlighting the depth and consistency of the squad.
Under the guidance of coach Santiago Nieva, the team showcased exceptional skill and confidence throughout the tournament. Meenakshi (48kg), Preeti (54kg), Priya (60kg), and Arundhati (70kg) clinched gold medals, leading India’s charge. Meenakshi set the tone by defeating Mongolia’s Nomundari Enkh-Amgalan 5-0 in the final, earning India its first gold of the event.
Preeti followed with an outstanding performance, overpowering three-time world champion Huang Hsiao-Wen of Chinese Taipei with a dominant 5-0 victory. Her win was particularly impressive as she maintained complete control against the Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist. Meanwhile, Priya Ghanshas secured her gold by defeating North Korea’s Won Un-Gyong 3-0 in a convincing final bout.
Additionally, star boxers Nikhat Zareen and Lovlina Borgohain contributed to the medal tally with bronze medals, further strengthening India’s position at the top. This exceptional performance by the Indian women’s team not only reflects their hard work and determination but also sets a strong foundation for future international competitions.
