Weather plays spoilsport at Eden Gardens, match called off midway
Punjab Newsline,Sports :
The IPL 2026 clash between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at Eden Gardens in Kolkata was abandoned due to rain on Monday evening. This marked the first match of the season to be washed out, with both teams forced to share one point each.
The match had begun on an exciting note after Kolkata won the toss and opted to bat first. The home side made a quick start, reaching 25/2 in just 3.4 overs. Captain Ajinkya Rahane was unbeaten on 8, while Angkrish Raghuvanshi was on 7 when rain interrupted play at 7:46 PM, bringing the game to a halt.
Punjab Kings’ bowler Xavier Bartlett had earlier made an impact by striking twice in the second over, dismissing Cameron Green (4) and Finn Allen (6), giving his team an early advantage. With the match finely poised, persistent rain prevented any further action, and officials eventually called off the game.
Following the no-result, both teams will now shift focus to their upcoming fixtures. Punjab Kings are set to face Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 11, while Kolkata Knight Riders will take on Lucknow Super Giants on April 9. Fans will be hoping for uninterrupted action in the matches ahead.
