JC Bose University conducting IST workshop on Principles of Continuum Mechanics

J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad, has been conducting a two-week Instructional School for Teachers workshop on Principles of Continuum Mechanics. The workshop is being organized by the Department of Mathematics in collaboration with the National Centre of Mathematics (NCM), a joint venture of IIT Bombay and TIFR Mumbai, the workshop aims to enhance the quality of mathematical education by providing advanced training in core subjects to Ph.D. students, researchers, and teachers across India.
Giving more information in this regard, an official spokesperson informed that the workshop started with an inaugural session, commencing today with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony. Prof. Neetu Gupta, Chairperson of the Department of Mathematics, extended a warm welcome to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sushil Kumar Tomar and the Chief Guest, Prof. Peeyush Chandra, a retired Professor from the Department of Mathematics at IIT Kanpur, as well as tutors Dr. Dilbag Singh from Panjab University, Chandigarh, and Dr. Suraj Kumar from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, spokesperson added.
Prof. Neetu Gupta highlighted the main objective of the workshop is to promote mathematics in the region and improve the quality of teaching and research. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sushil Kumar Tomar, who is also one of the eminent speakers, welcomed the Chief Guest and all the distinguished speakers. Prof. Tomar, a renowned mathematician, emphasized the applications of mathematics in various fields and congratulated the Department of Mathematics for organizing the event. He specifically praised Prof. Neetu Gupta and Dr. Suraj Goyal, the conveners of the workshop, for their efforts and encouraged them to maintain their enthusiasm for future endeavours.
The Chief Guest, Prof. Peeyush Chandra, shared his insights with the participants, inspiring them with his extensive knowledge and experience. The inaugural event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Suraj Goyal. The first day will include three lectures and one tutorial session.
The spokesperson further informed that as many as 30 participants from reputed institutes like ISM IIT Dhanbad, NIT Hamirpur, NIT Delhi, University of Delhi, Guru Jambeshwar University, and Panjab University have been shortlisted for this workshop. The primary objective is to introduce the basic concepts of Continuum Mechanics and Fluid Dynamics, two emerging fields in Applied Mathematics. The workshop will feature 36 lectures and 12 tutorials delivered by eminent mathematicians from prestigious institutions such as IIT Kanpur, IIT Ropar, IIT Indore, Panjab University Chandigarh, Jadavpur University Kolkata, and GNDU Amritsar. The workshop will continue until June 15, 2024, and is expected to significantly contribute to the professional development of university and college teachers, fostering a deeper understanding of Continuum Mechanics and its applications, he added.
