Kejriwal Says No Hope of Justice from Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma, Refuses to Approach High Court in Liquor Policy Case

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday released a video announcing that he will neither appear before the Delhi High Court nor allow any lawyer to represent him in the ongoing liquor policy case. He claimed that he does not expect justice from Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma.

Kejriwal also wrote a letter to the judge, stating that he has decided to follow the path of Satyagraha inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, guided by his conscience. He alleged a conflict of interest, claiming that both children of Justice Sharma are part of the central government’s panel of lawyers.

He further said that Solicitor General Tushar Mehta assigns cases to them, adding that her son reportedly received around 5,904 cases between 2023 and 2025. Kejriwal questioned whether a judge could deliver an impartial verdict when her children’s professional future is linked to the Solicitor General.

Earlier, the Delhi High Court had rejected Kejriwal’s plea seeking a change of judge in the excise policy case. He had accused Justice Sharma of bias and requested that the matter be transferred to another bench. However, the court dismissed the petition, with the Chief Justice also making remarks during the hearing.

Following the rejection, Kejriwal announced that he would no longer appear in Justice Sharma’s court. In his video statement, he claimed he was falsely implicated and jailed in the case, and that an elected government was wrongfully brought down. He asserted that he was eventually declared innocent, with the court raising questions over the investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation and ordering action against the investigating officer.

Kejriwal also questioned whether he could receive justice from a judge who, according to him, had acknowledged participating in events linked to the Akhil Bharatiya Adhivakta Parishad, an organization associated with an ideology he opposes.

Reacting to his remarks, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva strongly condemned Kejriwal’s letter and statements, calling them an attack on democratic institutions. He said the comments made against the judiciary in the liquor policy case were inappropriate and unacceptable.
