The Congress party boycotted a special session of the Haryana Legislative Assembly convened by the state government to pass a censure motion on the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan’ Act. Not only did Congress MLAs skip the session, they also conducted parallel proceedings outside the Assembly.
Senior leaders, including Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda, along with Raghuvir Kadian and state party chief Rao Narender, were present during the protest. Congress legislators read out a condolence resolution and observed a two-minute silence.
Hooda said the issue brought before the House was not related to the Assembly and accused the government of introducing a political matter. He added that the party would oppose the censure motion both outside the Assembly and on the streets.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini termed the Congress boycott “highly irresponsible.” He said the party’s attitude toward women, as seen in the Lok Sabha, was reflected again in the state. BJP MLA Vimal Chaudhary also criticized the opposition, stating that women possess immense strength and should not be underestimated.
Earlier, in a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party, five MLAs suspended over cross-voting in the Rajya Sabha elections Shalley Chaudhary, Renu Bala, Mohammad Ilyas, Mohammad Israil and Jarnail Singh did not attend. However, Jarnail Singh, Renu Bala, and Shaili Chaudhary later participated in the Assembly proceedings. Jarnail Singh said the Congress should not have opposed the motion.
