Thrilling contests underway in Bengaluru as Abhishek Goswami scores a half-century
The quarterfinal stage of the domestic one-day tournament, the Vijay Hazare Trophy, is underway on Monday with two crucial matches being played at the Centre of Excellence ground in Bengaluru. Both quarterfinals began at 9 am and carry high stakes, with teams fighting hard to secure a place in the semifinals. Intense competition and quality cricket have marked the opening sessions of both encounters.
In the first quarterfinal, two giants of Indian domestic cricket, Karnataka and Mumbai, are facing each other. Karnataka are five-time champions of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, while Mumbai have lifted the title four times. Karnataka entered the knockout stage after winning all six of their group-stage matches, whereas Mumbai qualified with five wins.
Karnataka won the toss and opted to field first against Mumbai. Mumbai’s innings saw a cautious yet competitive approach from their batters. At the time of reporting, Mumbai had reached 100 runs for the loss of four wickets. Karnataka’s bowlers maintained pressure by picking up wickets at regular intervals, preventing Mumbai from building big partnerships, while the Mumbai batters focused on keeping the scoreboard moving.
The second quarterfinal of the day is being played between Uttar Pradesh and Saurashtra. Saurashtra won the toss and chose to field first. Uttar Pradesh’s batting lineup showed resilience and intent, taking the team past the 150-run mark. Abhishek Goswami played a key role in the innings, scoring a well-composed half-century to stabilize the innings and guide Uttar Pradesh into a strong position.
With both quarterfinals delicately poised, the matches promise more excitement as the day progresses. Fans and followers of domestic cricket are keenly watching the developments, as the outcomes of these matches will determine the semifinalists of this year’s Vijay Hazare Trophy.
