WPL: Amanjot Kaur Calls Herself Fortunate to Be Part of Harmanpreet Kaur’s Era

Punjab Newsline,Sports:

Mumbai Indians all-rounder Amanjot Kaur lauds skipper Harmanpreet Kaur after a match-winning partnership against Gujarat Giants in the Women’s Premier League.

Mumbai Indians all-rounder Amanjot Kaur expressed admiration for her captain Harmanpreet Kaur after the latter’s match-winning innings against Gujarat Giants at the DY Patil Stadium, as the two-time champions handed Gujarat their first defeat of the season in the Women’s Premier League (WPL).

Chasing a challenging target, Mumbai Indians found themselves under pressure early after the dismissals of G Kamalini and Hayley Matthews inside the powerplay. Amanjot then stepped up with a crucial contribution, scoring 40 runs off 26 balls, before Harmanpreet anchored the innings with an unbeaten 71 off 43 deliveries to guide the team to victory. The duo added a vital 72-run partnership, stabilising the chase and shifting momentum firmly in Mumbai’s favour.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Amanjot described herself and her teammates as fortunate to be playing alongside Harmanpreet. She said that batting with the experienced skipper brings a sense of calm and confidence, as Harmanpreet consistently creates scoring opportunities and absorbs pressure during crucial moments. Amanjot also highlighted the learning experience of sharing the crease with Harmanpreet, praising her ability to play difficult shots with ease.

Amanjot revealed that she was promoted to bat at number three due to Nat Sciver-Brunt missing the match because of food poisoning. She said she was comfortable batting at any position assigned by the team management and focused on contributing according to the match situation. During the chase, the plan was to capitalise on the powerplay and ensure that one batter stayed till the end, a role successfully fulfilled by Harmanpreet.

The all-rounder credited Mumbai Indians for helping her adapt to the finisher’s role, a shift from her usual position as an opener in domestic cricket. She acknowledged that team camps and clear communication from coaches about expectations played a key role in her development.

While Amanjot impressed with the bat, her bowling proved expensive as she conceded 48 runs in four overs. Addressing this, she said she continues to work on her bowling, learning from senior players in the squad and focusing on improving consistency, emphasising that growth and learning are constant processes in professional cricket.
