Tension flared outside the Manji Sahib Diwan Hall at the Golden Temple after a group of youths allegedly found injection needles, tobacco, and bidis during a checking operation. The situation quickly escalated as the youths present at the spot became agitated and assaulted the individuals involved.
It was also alleged that the accused had stolen a mobile phone belonging to one of the youths. Following this, the crowd turned aggressive and physically attacked them.
A video of the entire incident has gone viral on social media. In the clip, a young man can be seen beating the accused individuals while others search their bags. The video was shared on an Instagram account identified as sona.pb.2 (Nishan Singh). It shows a young man wearing a red cloth on his head slapping two individuals, while others continue checking their belongings.
The video, which is approximately 1 minute and 30 seconds long, initially shows one young man displaying a lighter, another showing tobacco/bidi, while one person records the incident and two others carry out the checking. Two individuals are made to stand in front during the process.
During the confrontation, the young man with the red cloth is heard accusing them of owning the prohibited items before slapping one of them.
The message written in Punjabi accompanying the video reads as follows
"Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh. Dear *Sadh Sangat* (congregation), today—April 12, 2026—at approximately 6:30 AM, these thieves were apprehended. They had stolen a mobile phone belonging to one of our brothers (*Veer*). When the congregation caught them, *bidis*, lighters, and syringes were recovered from their possession.
It is a matter of deep shame that even our own people fail to grasp the sanctity of such a holy site; if our own people do not understand, how can we expect outsiders to do so? To all members of the congregation who travel from far and wide to sleep within the Diwan Hall, please remain vigilant and take care of yourselves. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh."
