Chandigarh witnessed fresh panic after a bomb threat was issued targeting the Passport Office located in Industrial Area Phase-2. Following the alert, a police team led by Station House Officer of Sector-31, Inspector Hariom Sharma, reached the spot and began a thorough inspection of the premises.
The threat was delivered via an email sent to officials associated with the Ministry of External Affairs. The email claimed that 14 IEDs had been planted across the city and could explode at 1:15 PM on Monday.
The threatening email was sent Monday morning from an unidentified ID and included the official email addresses of the Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Chandigarh. The sender claimed affiliation with a group called “Azad Dravid Nadu.”
In the email, the sender expressed anger over certain political and policing issues related to Tamil Nadu, as well as developments linked to Bangladesh. Allegations of injustice against some individuals and police actions were also mentioned.
Police officials have urged citizens to remain calm and not to pay attention to rumors. Meanwhile, the cybercrime team has launched an investigation to trace the sender and determine the origin of the email.
