Student’s Brutal Killing Triggers Panic in Sarkaghat, Police Launch Manhunt

A 19-year-old college student was brutally murdered on Monday morning in Gopalpur under the Sarkaghat subdivision, triggering panic across the region. The victim, identified as Siya Guleria, a resident of Nain village, was on her way to college when her throat was allegedly slit by attackers.

While the exact motive behind the murder remains unknown, locals suspect that two young man on a motorcycle carried out the crime. Upon receiving information, a team from Sarkaghat Police Station reached the spot, took custody of the body, and launched an investigation.

In a swift development, one of the accused was apprehended by villagers in Thana village under Fatehpur Panchayat. He was reportedly trying to hide in nearby wheat fields after committing the crime. Villagers spotted him, alerted the police, and formed a cordon until officers arrived and took him into custody.

Senior police officials, including SP Vinod Kumar, ASP Abhimanyu Verma, and DSP Sanjeev Kumar Gautam, are present at the scene overseeing the investigation. Police teams have been deployed to nab the remaining accused, and CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined.

The incident has sent shockwaves across the region, creating an atmosphere of fear and outrage. Mandi SP Vinod Kumar stated that the investigation is underway and expressed confidence that the remaining accused will be arrested soon.

Leader of the Opposition Jairam Thakur strongly condemned the incident, called it deeply disturbing. He said such a heinous crime in broad daylight is unimaginable in “Devbhoomi” and has shaken the sense of safety among families, especially those with daughters pursuing education. He also questioned the law and order situation, alleging that instead of focusing solely on catching the culprits, police were seen restricting access of locals and family members to the crime scene, while the government remained silent.
