Responding to a call attention motion in the Vidhan Sabha today, Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dhushyant Chautala lauded the Haryana Agriculture Department for its prompt response to 24 distress calls from farmers and the seamless implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) in the state.
Ensuring Comprehensive Crop Coverage:
Since its launch in March 2016, the PMFBY has been meticulously aligned with the Government of India's guidelines. It provides crucial insurance coverage for key crops like Paddy, Bajra, Maize, Cotton, and Moong in the Kharif season, and Wheat, Mustard, Gram, Barley, and Sunflower in the Rabi season. The scheme offers farmer-friendly premiums, with a 2% share for Kharif crops and 1.5% for Rabi crops, and a 5% share for horticultural and commercial crops.
Addressing Recent Crop Losses:
Speaking on the matter, the Agriculture Department emphasized its commitment to processing claims for crop losses due to hailstorms and inundation during the Rabi 2022-23 season as per the scheme's guidelines. A total of 3,70,277 applications have been received for Mustard and Wheat crops across districts, including Hisar, Sirsa, Bhiwani, and Fatehabad.
Swift Disbursements Bring Relief:
The latest figures reveal that claims worth a substantial Rs. 65.18 crore have already been disbursed to 35,365 farmers, showcasing the department's commitment to timely relief. Here's a closer look at the district-wise breakdown:
Hisar:
In the district of Hisar, the estimated claims under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana for Mustard and Wheat stand at 6.38 Crore and 3.59 Crore, respectively. Notably, the department has efficiently disbursed claims amounting to 6.30 Crore for Mustard and 3.59 Crore for Wheat, ensuring that affected farmers receive timely relief.
Sirsa:
Moving to Sirsa, where the impact of the recent weather events is being assessed, the estimated claim for Mustard is 5.50 Crore, with disbursement currently under process. For Wheat, an estimated claim of 91.23 Crore has been recorded, of which 3.19 Crore has already been disbursed to affected farmers, showcasing the ongoing commitment to addressing agricultural challenges.
Fatehabad:
In Fatehabad, the estimated claims for Mustard and Wheat are 4.87 Crore and 2.04 Crore, respectively. The disbursement process has been notably efficient, with 4.39 Crore released for Mustard and 2.04 Crore for Wheat, offering crucial financial support to farmers affected by adverse weather conditions.
Bhiwani:
The district of Bhiwani has witnessed a substantial impact, with an estimated claim of 51.30 Crore for Mustard and 23.04 Crore for Wheat. Demonstrating a commitment to swift action, the Agriculture Department has disbursed 34.20 Crore for Mustard and 11.47 Crore for Wheat, ensuring that farmers receive the much-needed assistance.
Overall Total:
Summing up the district-wise breakdown, the total estimated claims across Hisar, Sirsa, Fatehabad, and Bhiwani amount to 187.95 Crore. Notably, a significant portion of these claims, totaling 65.18 Crore, has already been disbursed to farmers, underscoring the effective implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana in providing crucial relief to the agricultural community in Haryana.
