Congress and Rahul Gandhi are weakening democracy by spreading lies and confusion about democratic institutions, says Nayab Saini
Punjab Newsline, Chandigarh–
In a scathing attack on the Congress, Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday accused Rahul Gandhi of spreading misinformation to discredit the Election Commission and destabilise democratic institutions. He said that the opposition was resorting to falsehoods and baseless allegations in a calculated attempt to undermine public trust in India’s democratic process.
The allegations they have made against the Election Commission are false and misleading. They repeatedly appear before the public unprepared and make statements that undermine democracy. Making false allegations again and again and then backing away has become a habit of Rahul Gandhi, said the Chief Minister.
He said that Rahul Gandhi is making these baseless and false accusations only to protect infiltrators and urban Naxals. The sole aim of Congress is to break the public's trust in democracy, create unrest, and destabilize India, while the BJP government is committed to protecting democracy, unlike Congress, which supports infiltrators, said the Chief Minister while addressing a press conference here today.
Saini, presenting facts, said that Rahul Gandhi linked the voter list controversy during the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections to the current Chief Election Commissioner, Sh. Gyanesh Kumar, even though he was appointed in February 2025. Calling the allegations ‘factually incorrect and politically motivated, the Chief Minister asked why Rahul Gandhi is blaming the current CEC for an incident that happened in 2023. Regarding the Aland Assembly constituency in Karnataka, which Rahul Gandhi referred to, Congress had actually won from there in 2023.
He accused Rahul Gandhi of twisting the facts to mislead the public. An FIR has already been registered in the matter. The Election Commission had even provided the mobile numbers and IP addresses used. The investigation is currently being conducted by the CID under the Congress-led government in Karnataka. He asked rhetorically whether Rahul Gandhi does not trust his own party's government and its investigation.
Th Chief Minister said that Rahul Gandhi recently stated that it is not his job to save democracy, but rather the job of Congress and the INDI alliance is to oppose the BJP. This one statement alone is enough to expose his true intentions. The Election Commission of India has also held a press conference and dismissed all of Rahul Gandhi’s false claims within minutes. The Commission clearly stated that the allegations made by Rahul Gandhi are false and baseless.
The Chief Minister further stated that records of the Aland Assembly seat in Karnataka show that in 2023, Congress candidate B.R. Patil won with a large margin of 10,348 votes, which proves that the allegations of voter deletion conspiracies are baseless. This seat, which Congress had never won until 2018, suddenly went to Congress. Does that mean Congress indulged in voter fraud, questioned Sh. Nayab Singh Saini.
Saini sarcastically said that Rahul Gandhi named several people and claimed that their names were removed from the voter list. This clearly shows that he is making dangerous, inflammatory statements in the name of a particular religion. The aim is to divide society. The country is watching how Congress is working to create a rift in society in the name of caste and religion, he said.
The Chief Minister said that the truth is that the agency 'Centre for the Study of Developing Societies,' on whose report Congress is accusing vote theft, had withdrawn its report on August 17 this year. He said that the process of removing names from the voter list is very transparent. To remove a name from the voter list, one must fill out Form 7. This form is submitted either to the Electoral Registration Officer or online through the National Voter Service Portal. There is a complete process for removing a voter's name, which is monitored by Booth Level Officers and Electoral Registration Officers. Inquiry is conducted before removing the name, informed Sh. Nayab Singh Saini.
Referring to the Malur Assembly constituency, the Chief Minister said that the Karnataka High Court has canceled the election of Congress MLA K.Y. Nanjegowda on September 16, 2025, and ordered a recount of votes cast in the 2023 assembly elections. After nearly two years of hearing, the court ordered a recount and declared Nanjegowda's election illegal. It is clear that Congress rigged the vote count, he said.
The Chief Minister said that Rahul Gandhi openly accused the Election Commission without having any evidence. Weakening institutions is in Congress's DNA. The names and constituencies revealed by him were all chosen according to Congress’s interests and politics. Rahul Gandhi is not fighting for Indian voters but for the vote bank of infiltrators, said Sh. Nayab Singh Saini.
The Chief Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi, India’s democracy is fully secure. Some unsuccessful people are trying to endanger it by spreading chaos to hide their failures. Perhaps, this is the only way left for them to maintain their political existence, he said.
Today, it is not democracy but the Congress party that is in danger
Saini said that Congress has forgotten public interest. Everyone is seeing what kind of democracy exists within the Congress party in Haryana. Almost a year of assembly elections have passed, Congress has not been able to elect a Leader of Opposition. Congress people are only engaged in misleading propaganda. Why don’t they remember the rigging done by them in elections questioned Sh. Nayab Singh Saini.
