AYUSH system plays important role in treatment and prevention of chronic diseases: Minister

Haryana Health Minister Arti Singh Rao said the State Government is promoting Ayurveda as the AYUSH system of medicine plays an important role in the treatment and prevention of chronic diseases arising from modern lifestyles.
The Health Minister stated that Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy systems have been recognized in India since ancient times across all sections of society. Many diseases that cannot be treated in modern medicine can be prevented and cured through these systems.
Sharing details of the AYUSH Department’s initiatives, she said the department is providing healthcare, medical education, and health awareness, especially in rural areas. For this purpose, the State has set up 4 Ayurvedic hospitals, 1 Unani hospital, 1 Homeopathic hospital, 6 Ayurvedic Primary Health Centres, 6 Panchkarma centres under the State Government, 21 Panchkarma centres under the National Health Mission, 497 Ayurvedic dispensaries, 16 Unani dispensaries, and 24 Homeopathic dispensaries. In addition, an Institute of Indian Medicine and Research is functioning in Panchkula.
She further informed that under the National AYUSH Mission, 21 AYUSH wings are operational in district hospitals, 102 AYUSH IPDs in Community Health Centres, and 106 AYUSH OPDs in Primary Health Centres, providing healthcare facilities to the public. Most of these AYUSH institutions are functioning in rural and remote areas. Haryana also has one Government Ayurvedic College and 12 private Ayurvedic colleges.
The Health Minister added that to ensure Ayurveda services are available to the public in all Primary Health Centres, 529 Ayurvedic Medical Officers have been appointed.
She highlighted that the upcoming Shri Krishna AYUSH University in Kurukshetra, being established on about 100 acres, will ensure structured teaching, training, and research in Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy systems, and will emerge as a centre of excellence in these fields.
Additionally, with support from the Central Government under the National AYUSH Mission, a 50-bed AYUSH hospital is being set up at village Maiyad in Hisar district, a Government Unani College and Hospital at village Akera in district Nuh, and a Government Homeopathic College and Hospital at village Chandpura in district Ambala.
