Almost every salaried employee contributes a portion of their income to a Provident Fund (PF) account managed by the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation. While this fund is primarily meant for retirement, it can also be withdrawn under certain conditions. However, problems may arise if the bank account linked to your EPF becomes inactive or closed.

Employees invest in PF with the expectation that it will support them during emergencies or after retirement. But to withdraw funds, having an active bank account linked to your EPF is mandatory. If the linked account is inactive, your claim may be delayed or even rejected.

How to Check Your Linked Bank Account

To verify which bank account is linked to your EPF:

  • Visit the EPFO Member Portal
  • Log in using your UAN and password
  • Go to the “Manage” section
  • Click on “KYC”
  • Your linked bank account details will be displayed

What to Do If Your Account is Inactive

If you find that your linked bank account is no longer active:

  • Update your bank details directly on the EPFO portal
  • Enter the new account number and IFSC code
  • Submit the request

Your request will show as ‘Pending’ until it is approved by both your employer and the bank. Once approved, your new bank account will be updated successfully.

Key Advice

To avoid any inconvenience:

  • Always keep an active bank account linked to your EPF
  • Ensure your KYC details (Aadhaar, PAN, Bank) are up to date

Staying proactive can help you access your PF savings smoothly when you need them the most.
