Eye Care Is Essential During Winter

Punjab Newsline, Health :

Negligence in Cold and Dry Weather Can Increase Eye Problems

While the winter season brings relief from heat, it can also cause several problems for eye health. Cold and dry air reduces moisture in the eyes, leading to common issues such as burning sensation, itching, redness, and a feeling of heaviness in the eyes. People who spend long hours outdoors or continuously use mobile phones and computer screens need to be especially cautious during this season. Experts warn that neglecting eye care in winter may lead to infections in the long run.

According to eye specialists, adopting a few essential habits during winter is crucial for maintaining healthy eyes. Regularly washing the eyes with clean water, drinking an adequate amount of water, and limiting screen time are considered beneficial for eye health. Prolonged use of mobile phones or laptops can increase dryness in the eyes, making it important to give the eyes proper rest at regular intervals. Adequate lighting at home or in the workplace also plays a vital role in protecting eye health.

In addition, wearing sunglasses while stepping outdoors is recommended to protect the eyes from cold winds, dust, and pollution. If excessive irritation or dryness is experienced, doctor-prescribed eye drops can be used. Diet also has a strong connection with eye health. Foods rich in Vitamin A and Omega-3 fatty acids, such as green vegetables, carrots, fish, and nuts, help strengthen the eyes. Experts believe that with a little care and proper attention, eyes can remain healthy even during the winter season.
