Punjab Newsline, Chandigarh –

Additional Chief Secretary, Health & Family Welfare and Medical Education & Research Department, Dr. Sumita Misra while chairing a review meeting of Health & Medical Education Department stated that Haryana's health infrastructure is witnessing rapid expansion with the department achieving over 91 per cent capital expenditure utilization and seven new medical colleges taking shape across the state.

The financial review for 2025–26 revealed encouraging trends, particularly under capital expenditure. Against an allocation of Rs. 951.51 crore, an amount of Rs. 866.96 crore has already been utilised, achieving a remarkable 91% utilisation rate. This performance underscores efficient project execution, prudent financial management and strong inter-departmental coordination. On the revenue side, approximately Rs. 1,173.05 crore has been deployed to ensure uninterrupted delivery of health services across the state.

The state’s medical education landscape is witnessing a transformative expansion. The ACS reviewed the progress of flagship projects including the University of Health Sciences at Kutail, Karnal, along with six new government medical colleges coming up at Jind, Kaithal, Yamunanagar, Sirsa, Sonipat (Khanpur Kalan) and Karnal.

With substantial investments already committed, officers were directed to accelerate construction timelines to ensure early operationalisation. These institutions will significantly augment the availability of trained medical professionals while bringing quality medical education closer to every region of the state.

The meeting also discussed the clinical infrastructure under the state’s flagship free treatment initiatives. To further expand access, five new Cath Labs are proposed in government medical colleges and district hospitals. Diagnostic capacity is also being scaled up rapidly. At present, tendering process for 10 additional MRI units has been completed. MRI services will be soon be extended to all 23 district hospitals, ensuring equitable access to advanced diagnostics across Haryana.

The state has achieved a major milestone by providing free dialysis services to all residents in 22 districts, substantially reducing the financial burden on patients with chronic kidney disease. Plans are underway to extend dialysis services to select sub-divisional hospitals as well.

Additionally, 17 CT scan facilities are currently functional, with tenders finalised for four more CT scanners. Strengthening tertiary care, the Atal Cancer Care Centre (ACCC) at Ambala Cantt has been made operational to provide advanced cancer treatment, while tenders have been floated for setting up PET Scan and SPECT facilities. These initiatives collectively reinforce Haryana’s commitment to strengthening critical and tertiary healthcare services.
