The winter season brings cold weather and comfort, but it can also create several problems for our eyes. Cold winds, low humidity, lack of sunlight, and excessive use of mobile phones or television can cause dryness, irritation, heaviness, and blurred vision in the eyes. If proper care is not taken on time, it may also affect eyesight. Therefore, it is very important to adopt some simple habits to keep your eyes sharp and healthy during winter.
First of all, pay attention to your diet. Include green vegetables like spinach, fenugreek, carrots, and broccoli in your winter meals. Carrots are rich in vitamin A, which helps improve eyesight. In addition, fruits like amla (Indian gooseberry), oranges, and guava help strengthen the eyes. Drinking enough water daily is also essential, as lack of hydration increases eye dryness.
The second important point is to reduce screen time. During winter, people spend most of their time indoors and tend to use mobile phones, laptops, and televisions more. This puts extra strain on the eyes. After every 20 minutes, give your eyes a break for 20 seconds and look at something far away. This helps reduce eye fatigue.
Protecting your eyes from cold winds and dust is also very important in winter. Wear sunglasses when going outside to prevent irritation and watering of the eyes. If you experience excessive dryness, eye drops can be used after consulting a doctor.
Additionally, practice light eye exercises daily. Move your eyes up and down, left and right, and place your warm palms over your eyes after rubbing them together. This relaxes the eyes and improves blood circulation.
Good sleep is also essential for eye health. Make sure to get at least 7–8 hours of sleep every day. This keeps your eyes fresh and helps maintain good eyesight. By following these simple tips, you can keep your eyes sharp and healthy even during the winter season.
