Hockey India has announced the 24-member Indian Women’s Hockey Team squad for the upcoming Argentina tour, showcasing an exciting mix of experienced players and emerging talent. The tour is scheduled to take place from April 13 to 17 in Buenos Aires, where India will face a strong Argentine side in four matches. This series holds great significance as the team prepares for the upcoming FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 and the Asian Games.
Midfielder Salima Tete will lead the team once again, bringing her energy, composure, and leadership to the squad. One of the biggest highlights is the return of forward Deepika, who is back after rehabilitation. Known for her drag-flicking skills, her presence will significantly strengthen India’s attacking unit.
Veteran goalkeeper Savita also makes a timely return, adding experience and stability to the defense. In her absence, young goalkeeper Bichu Devi Kharibam impressed everyone with her performance in the qualifiers, creating healthy competition within the squad.
Players like Navneet Kaur, Baljeet Kaur, and Mumtaz Khan have shown strong form in recent matches, while midfielders like Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke and Rutuja Dadaso Pisal continue to prove their consistency and value to the team.
Head coach Sjoerd Marijne emphasized that the tour will provide valuable international exposure to young players and help test team combinations against a top-tier opponent like Argentina.
Overall, this tour is not just another series but a crucial step in shaping the future of Indian women’s hockey as they gear up for major international tournaments.
