Two Arrested in Amritsar with Five Sophisticated Pistols; Arms Smuggling Module Busted

Punjab Newsline,Chandigarh:

Accused were in contact with Pakistan-based smugglers through social media; weapon consignments delivered via drones

In a major breakthrough under the Punjab Government’s ongoing anti-gangster campaign “Gangsteran Te War,” the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted an arms smuggling module and arrested two individuals with five sophisticated pistols.

Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, identified the arrested accused as Rohit Arora (25), a resident of Gilwali Gate, Amritsar, and Harpreet Singh alias Happy (24), a resident of village Mirakot Kalan, Amritsar. The police recovered three 9mm Glock pistols and two .30 bore pistols from their possession.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused were in contact with Pakistan-based smugglers through social media platforms. The weapon consignments were allegedly sent via drones from across the border, and the accused used to further supply them on the instructions of their handlers. The DGP stated that further investigations are underway to trace backward and forward linkages of this illegal arms network.

Amritsar Police Commissioner (CP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that acting on credible intelligence, police teams conducted a well-planned operation and arrested Rohit Arora, who is reportedly a close associate of gangster Sonu Kangla. During his search, one Glock pistol and two .30 bore pistols were recovered.

Based on disclosures made during interrogation, police arrested Harpreet Singh alias Happy and recovered two additional Glock pistols from his possession. The CP added that both accused are habitual offenders with multiple cases already registered against them under charges including armed robbery, Jail Act, Arms Act, and NDPS Act. They were allegedly involved in drug and arms smuggling to make “easy money.”

An FIR (No. 33 dated 06-02-2026) has been registered at Police Station Gate Hakima, Amritsar, under Sections 25, 6, 7, and 8 of the Arms Act. Further investigation is in progress.
