Chandigarh Police team reached the office of author Madhu Kishwar in Sarita Vihar, Delhi, on Tuesday to serve a notice in connection with an FIR registered against her over the alleged circulation of forged and misleading social media content.
The case has been lodged at the Sector 26 Police Station against Kishwar and several other social media users under relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) and the IT Act. The sections invoked include 196, 336(1), and 356.
According to a statement by the Chandigarh Police, the complainant alleged on April 19 that multiple users were circulating fabricated and misleading posts and video clips on social media. The content reportedly contained obscene text and falsely identified the individual seen in the video.
During the preliminary investigation, police identified the individual in the video as a travel vlogger. Authorities said the original clip had been shared from the social media account of the vlogger’s wife, who confirmed that the person seen in the video is her husband. Statements of the husband and another woman seen in the video have also been recorded.
Police have named Kishwar and several other social media handles in the FIR. Further investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, Kishwar said in a social media post that a team from the Chandigarh Police visited her residence to serve a notice regarding the FIR registered against her.
Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
