Punjab, Chandigarh and Haryana are currently experiencing intense heat. Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert for a heatwave from April 21 to April 24. Temperatures are expected to reach up to 44°C during this period with some places also likely to experience warm nights.
Compared to Monday, the temperature has risen by 0.1°C and is now 3.2°C above normal.
In Punjab, all 21 districts recorded temperatures above 35°C, indicating widespread heat across the state. Chandigarh recorded 38.1°C, while Jalandhar reported 37.0°C, Amritsar 37.1°C, Ludhiana 39.4°C, and Patiala 39.8°C. Pathankot registered 37.2°C, while Bathinda recorded the highest temperature at 41.0°C.
In Haryana, Rohtak recorded 41.6°C, Bhiwani 40.5°C, and Hisar 39.6°C.
According to Meteorological Department Director Surender Pal, the weather will remain clear and dry until April 24, with heatwave conditions likely to persist. The Health Department has issued an advisory urging people to take precautions against the heat, including guidelines on diet and safety measures. Special wards have been set up in hospitals, with staff deployed round-the-clock to handle heat-related cases.
