Cyber fraudsters allegedly impersonated the Managing Director (MD) of a company and cheated its accounts officer into transferring ₹1.90 crore. Police have arrested two accused, identified as Dinesh Bharti and Kuldeep, following a raid in Noida.
During the operation, police recovered two mobile phones from Dinesh and one mobile phone from Kuldeep. Investigators revealed that Dinesh had opened a bank account under the fake name “Arvind Chaudhary,” while Kuldeep used the alias “Bantu Singh” for a separate account.
According to the investigation, the fraudsters used the MD’s photograph as a WhatsApp profile picture and sent messages to the company’s accounts officer, claiming that the MD was busy in an important meeting and urgently needed funds transferred. Believing the request to be genuine, the employee transferred ₹1.90 crore from the company’s account.
Scam came to light when the fraudsters continued demanding additional payments. Suspicious of the repeated requests, the accounts officer contacted the MD directly. The MD denied sending any such messages, exposing the fraud.
Further investigation found that the stolen money had been transferred to the current account of a Noida-based firm, BTO Stepmile Reality Private Limited. Police said the accused had opened bank accounts using forged identities and documents to facilitate the fraud.
Both accused have been sent to judicial custody, and further investigations are underway to identify other individuals involved in the cybercrime network.
