India clinches the fifth T20 by 15 runs to register their third 5–0 series victory

Chandigarh, December 31, 2025 — IND vs SL: The Indian women’s cricket team delivered a commanding performance against Sri Lanka, creating history by clean sweeping the T20 series 5–0. In the fifth and final T20 match, India defeated Sri Lanka by 15 runs to seal the series emphatically. This marks the third occasion on which the Indian women’s team has won a T20 series by a 5–0 margin, having earlier achieved the same feat against the West Indies and Bangladesh.

The final match was played on Tuesday at the Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bowl first. Batting first, India posted a competitive total of 175 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, the Sri Lankan team fought hard but could only manage 160 runs for seven wickets, falling short of the target by 15 runs.

India’s innings was anchored by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who once again showcased her experience and leadership with a brilliant half-century. She scored 68 runs off 43 balls, playing a composed yet aggressive knock that put India in a strong position. Arundhati Reddy contributed a useful 27 runs, while Amanjot Kaur added 21 runs to strengthen the middle order. For Sri Lanka, Chamari Athapaththu, Kavisha Dilhari and Rashmika Sewandi picked up two wickets each, attempting to restrict India’s scoring.

Chasing 176, Sri Lanka suffered an early setback when captain Chamari Athapaththu was dismissed in the second over. The early wicket put pressure on the batting side. However, Hasini Perera and Imesha Dulani steadied the innings with a crucial 79-run partnership. Imesha Dulani played a fine knock and scored 50 runs, keeping Sri Lanka in the contest. After her dismissal, the required run rate increased and Sri Lanka struggled to maintain momentum.

India’s bowlers displayed a disciplined and collective effort to defend the total successfully. Shri Charani, Sneh Rana, Vaishnavi Sharma, Deepti Sharma, Arundhati Reddy and Amanjot Kaur each claimed one wicket. Tight bowling in the final overs ensured that Sri Lanka could not accelerate, ultimately sealing the match in India’s favour.

With this victory, the Indian women’s team not only secured the series but also demonstrated remarkable consistency, depth and confidence. The 5–0 clean sweep will serve as a major morale booster for the team as they prepare for upcoming international challenges.
