A tragic incident was reported from Ludhiana, where a three-year old girl accidentally set herself on fire while playing with a matchstick at home. The child was wearing a nylon frock, which caught fire within seconds and stuck to her body, leaving her severely burned.
Hearing her cries, the girl’s father rushed to rescue her and tried to extinguish the flames with his bare hands. He also sustained serious burn injuries during the attempt. The child was first taken to a nearby private clinic, where doctors provided first aid and advised immediate hospitalization.
However, she was admitted to the civil hospital nearly six hours after the incident. Doctors stated that the girl has suffered around 60% burn injuries and is currently undergoing treatment.
The incident took place at a house near Bhatia Dairy in Chandan Nagar area of Ludhiana. The girl’s father, Satpal, a resident of Kasganj, said he had just returned home from work when he found his daughter engulfed in flames.
“I didn’t think about my own safety and tried to put out the fire with my hands. If I had been even two minutes late, she wouldn’t have survived,” he said.
