Chandigarh, October 12: Former Vice Chancellor of Baba Farid Medical University for Health Sciences Faridkot and Orthopedic Specialist Dr. SS Gill was cremated here this afternoon amidst hundreds of mourners from different walks of life who gave a tearful adieu to the departed soul. Dr. Gill, who was 77 years old, passed away today at Mohali after a brief illness.
Punjab Cabinet Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer condoled with the family during the last rites at the Sector 25 cremation ground. He said that with Dr. Gill's sad demise, the medical education sector has suffered a huge loss. Where he was a Specialist Orthopedic and an efficient administrator, he was also a good human being and a down-to-earth man. He said that born in a small village of Dangarh in Barnala district, Dr. Gill made a big name with his intellect and humility. He also served as Head of the Orthopedics department at PGI Chandigarh.
Meet Hayer condoled with Dr. Gill's wife Amarjit Kaur, son Noor Shergill and daughter Anureet Kaur and niece Parneet Shergill who is the Deputy Commissioner of Sri Fatehgarh Sahib and shared the grief on behalf of the Punjab Government.
Sharing his heartfelt sympathies with the members of the bereaved family, Meet Hayer prayed to the Almighty to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and courage to family members to bear this irreparable loss
On this occasion, apart from representatives of Medical Education, Medical, social and political fields, a large number of people, heads of institutions, writers, Journalists and residents of Dangarh village were also present.
