The VR Punjab Mall has been temporarily closed for the public, with no clarity yet on when it will reopen. The sudden shutdown has left hundreds of employees jobless and created uncertainty for shop owners operating within the mall.
All entry gates have been sealed. On Monday, several visitors arrived at the mall but were turned away from the entrance. The premises also remained completely dark overnight, signaling a complete halt in operations.
The abrupt decision by the management has pushed over 100 retail outlets, including those run by multinational brands, to the brink of closure. Following official instructions, all shopkeepers and brands were asked to immediately shut their outlets, resulting in a sudden silence across the mall.
The move has triggered concerns among thousands of employees and staff, who now fear losing their jobs. Business owners have also expressed strong dissatisfaction with the management’s decision.
According to mall authorities, the closure is due to structural damage caused by the April 3 Earthquake. The company stated that a detailed structural safety review will be conducted before any decision on reopening is made. The mall will only resume operations if the building is declared safe.
